IMMEDIACY OF EMOTION
Teenhood is that time in your life where emotions are felt tenfold. There’s the desire to fit in, the struggle to find your identity (though I argue we’re all in a perpetual state of finding ourselves), and that thing called puberty and pimples and hormones and adults asking you annoying questions like what you want to do with your life. It’s chaos. It is easily accessible, right-there-on-the-shelf-in-multitudes, chaos. I think it’s one of the many reasons why many adults (over 55%) read YA, despite not being the target audience. Growing up can suck the passion out of you. The world doesn’t look as shiny and pretty as it used to. But reading YA novels is like a shot of much-needed oxytocin and adrenaline, taking you back to a time where you felt everything.
