The Rise of Young Adult Fiction

(RE)DISCOVERING THE WORLD.

This kind of relates to the previous point. When you’re a teen, your time is often spent stressing about school and exams, friendships and relationships. I’ts easy to feel boxed in, pressured from all sides. For young readers, YA books are a chance to escape that, to put themselves in the shoes of another teen, to go on exciting adventures, meet new people, and maybe learn things along the way, all from the comfort of their room. I believe it was Laurie Halse Anderson who said that books are a safe way of encountering distressing situations. Books, in general, are great way of understanding the world. For myself, as an “older” reader, YA books are a reminder that the world isn’t so bad. That if I approached my life now with the same passion that I had when I was a teen, I could accomplish so much.
